Surrey’s House Project officially launched on the 25th November 2024.
Surrey’s House Project provides another pathway for our young people preparing to leave care.
We are currently working with our first ever cohort of young people.

I would like to share some positive feedback regarding the house project. This initiative has significantly benefited two of my young people, who are approaching their 18th birthdays. They have been developing essential independence skills and feel well-supported by their key worker at the project.
For one of them, the project has been instrumental in helping her make friends and engage in social activities. For the other, it has greatly boosted his confidence. The formulation meetings have been particularly beneficial, enabling the Personal Advisor (PA) to gain a deeper understanding of the young people.
The team at the housing project has been incredibly supportive, especially in situations where I was advised to refer one of my young people for group living. They advocated for the best interests of the young person, highlighting that such a move would involve too many transitions in a short period, potentially having a negative impact on her mental health.
Overall, the house project has been a positive and supportive environment, fostering growth and stability for these young individuals

This reality was brought home to us recently with Sue’s decision to swap her working life at NHP for retirement caring for her new granddaughter two days a week. Even though Sue is fully in control of this decision-making process - something our young people often are not - the transition has still been discombobulating; letting go of something she enjoys and that has defined her, and moving on to something that will be incredibly rewarding and joyous.
